Recently bought a Nokia 5510 on ebay as I wanted one when they were first released but couldn't afford one at the time.
Nowhere near as big as I remember them. Radio and music player are really good, and the rest of the menus are laid out as every other Nokia has been. Would be considered a brick compared to the phones available now, but I really like it.

The Nokia 5510 is a decent phone, good features. Only the bad points let it down.
But seriously, it's a good phone.

OKay, my Nokia 5510 was second hand, and i bought it in the summer (03). It looks great - always draws attention because not many poeple have got it - and the mP3 player is good (if a little limited in memory by todays standards). The QWERTY keyboard allows you to txt quicker, but only when you've got used to it (which takes time). One of the only REAL problems is that the earpiece seems to be in an awkward place for some people - but only some. Oh and the back cover is a bit flimsy...
Other than that, its wicked. Good games, good tones, animated screensavers and you can fit a reasonable amount of music on it! I reccomend it if you want somthing a bit different (and a music phone thats doesnt cost too much)

I got my nokia 5510 a few days ago. I got it for a price of 899 DKR (86,34 pounds).
For that price it is a great phone. I bought it for the Mp3 player. And was happy to find out it worked great!
I can use my own headset so i dont have to use Nokias little junky headset. But you need to use the adapter that comes with the phone .. but that is a good thing so you wont break the socket on the phone (having a normal headphone plug in the phone, in your pocket, would not be good for the phone) cuz of the wellmade nokia adapter!
To install the nokia software is real easy too! BUT its the worst piece of software i have ever owned! its slow and takes up LOTS of space (makes a new copy of all your multimeida files!!) and is slow in transer!.. But i looked around the net and found a freeware piece of software for the phone that does the job fast and easy without any of the problems :) (http://www.aam.prv.pl/) ..
You might find it a bit clumsy but it can't be any smaller
cuz of all the buttons! so you just gotta figure out if
you can live with that ... but then again it saves you
from a mp3 player in the other pocket ;)
the rest of the phone works pretty much as you would expect..

I bought this phone and was one of the first people I knew with it, the salesman told me it would really kick off over here. lol 1 and a half years later im still waiting. I ordered the phone from a catalogue without thinking about the dimensions lol but i wanted something unique & thats what i got, it may be a little different but then again that reflects my personality, the mp3 system is great, the texting is cool, tjhe games are hard to play but overall it ROX!!!!!!!!

I BOUGHT THE PHONE NOT THINKING ABOUT THE SIZE INCONVENIENCE. IF NOKIA CREATED A MINATURE VERSION, THEY WOULD BE VERY POPULAR AS OVERALL, THIS PHONE KICKS @$$!

When the Nokia 5510 was first released in New Zealand, the going price was $900 (that's about 1800 euros). When I went into a shop recently, I noticed that they are now down to $260 (520 euros). When I questioned why the price has dropped so dramatically, the sales assistant told me that they had bought all of Nokia New Zealand's stock at a huge discount. It makes sense; the trendy young people at whom the 5510 is aimed would never be able to afford to spend $900. However, at a more reasonable price, the 5510 would be a huge seller.
It was disappointing to discover that there is no software to download music files from a Macintosh, but I prefer to listen to the radio on the move so that was my main reason for buying it. The radio produces good volume and sound quality, and allows you to preset up to ten stations along with tags so that you can assign the name of the radio station to a particular preset. The FM reception could be improved a little, though. One of my biggest concerns initially was the possibility that it may only be possible to listen to music using a special proprietory headset. Fortunately, this is not the case; the sales package includes an adaptor so that you can connect any standard 3.5mm headphones.
The idea of having a full QWERTY keyboard is novel, but not particularly beneficial, which is probably why the 5510 was the first and last non-PDA handset to include one. The keys are too small and unresponsive which means that the full keyboard is no better, but no worse, than using the conventional T9 system. I suppose that getting rid of the QWERTY keyboard would also allow the size of the handset to be reduced.
The 5510 has the same excellent user interface and sound quality as other Nokia handsets. If you like the 3310/3330 and like the idea of the radio and digital music player, then this is definitely a good option.

Alastair hasn't been reading his exchange rates, NZ$900 is about 450 Euros, not 1800 Euros as he states (1800 Euros would be about NZ$3600 - making one expensive nokia!)

the phones are down to $199 now !

And the user interface is not good. It's the usual boring interface Nokia have on most of their phones. It's getting really tedious. I'm glad the new 7650 and other models have a different interface for a change.

The phone is great in many respects. The music quality is outstanding and it comes with really good software to download music and stuff. The FM radio is also cool. Sending SMS messages is so easy and quick however you do have a tendency to go onto the second or even third txt message! The buttons are very clanky..especially the up and down ones. I hate the little flap that covers the USB and audio out bits. Wish it had more fascias and more readily available accesories!

The phone has many features, although it also has a few problems. If you are looking for a phone that has a keyboard and is different from everybody's 3310s or 3330s then this is what you want

Aparantly the 5510 can store up to 150 messages, it doesn't work on my phone though. Does anyone know how I can make it work. Apart from that, my phone is my family!!! [email protected]

The Nokia 5510 mobile phone is an excellent phone/mp3 player - pity about the size and design.

I bought this Nokia 5510 mobile phone a month ago against my friends recommendations. They saw it as a bulky phone and often referred to is as a brick, but it's not as big as you might think.
The way i looked at it was, I always carry my cd player around with me and a CD only has limited choice on it, this phone allowed me play any song i wanted anywhere i wanted and saved me carrying a cd player, as well as saving money on batteries!
Basically though it is the same as a 3330.
I was gutted when it got a fault after a month (bookmark option caused phone to freeze) and my network provider could not give me back the same phone.

This Nokia 5510 mobile phone has served me well for a number of weeks. Only a few minor problems encountered, as outlined above. I'd recommend this to anyone who is a lover of music, and let's face it, that's nearly everybody.I won a Creative jukebox for my MP3 pleasure, but the 5510 has taken over as my primary source of music, because of its smaller size and radio function. It's also an impressive phone in terms of battery life, reception and features. Highly recommended.

I use Nokia all the time because of it's user friendly software. I have used Nokia 2110, 5110, 3210, then this 5510. The shape is indeed too big for a mobile phone, I have difficulties bringing it everywhere, and it's not pocketsize. But I love the mp3 player, very fast downloading files, and clear sound. Also the AAC format is smaller than MP3, but has quality as good as MP3. The first mobile that can record from FM radio or other devices directly. Wish it's shrinkable !

The only reason DSE are selling this handset so cheap are because Nokia have discontinued this model due to a number of issues with the handset.
