“UNHEALING CHAPPED LIPS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Shieldslp447 on 16/01/2024

Been using Arm &Hammer Advanced White toothpaste. Experienced burning lips.I've noticed the inside of my cheeks and lips are sticking to my gums. Also severe chapped lips that won't heal. Googled the toothpaste and found others are experiencing similar issues. I WILL NOT CONTINUE USING THIS PRODUCT.

“Swollen Mouth”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/11/2022

This toothpaste whitened my teeth beautifully but left my mouth swollen and bleeding. It took me at least a week and a half to figure out the cause of my sore, dry mouth. By the end of the 1.5 weeks my lips, gums, and under my tongue had doubled in size, and my entire mouth had large red bumps covering it. The pain has been so bad that it wakes me up in the middle of the night. I have never been more uncomfortable in my life and I had braces on for 4 years. That being said, my husband has had zero issues with the toothpaste. The whitening power isn't worth the risk in my opinion though.

“cracked bleeding lips”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RuthHays on 31/10/2022

Never had chapped lips! started using the arm & hammer whitening toothpaste and started experiencing a weird tingling sensation all over my inner lips and gums! my lips grew double with a red rim around the bottom lip. Tried anti-fungal and antibiotic creams... nothing helped. decided it must be the toothpaste. Looked up the reviews and couldn't believe my eyes! So many people experienced the same problem! There should be a warning on the tube!

Same things happened to me I had to start researching so that I can find out if in fact was the toothpaste causing the tenderness inside my mouth tongue hairs gone and dry lips extremely dry and cracking . I just couldn’t seem to hydrate enough or moisture enough to heal my mouth and lips . I realized that the only thing I had done different was change my toothpaste.
I’m so glad I seen this review they really do need to put a warning on there for consumers

I just started using this toothpaste in the last week or two and by mouth and lips burn beyond control! I’m not thirsty but my mouth is dry and puckery. Now I’m wondering if it is this toothpaste

Thank for sharing. This is exactly what I'm going through now. I didn't know what the hell was going on. Went to urgent care twice. Talked it out and figured out it had to be the Arm and Hammer toothpaste.

“Caused a Doctor Visit!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/07/2022

I’m a Colgate girl, but this was on sale, and I thought I’d try the Arm & Hammer Advance White Extreme Whitening. Didn’t like the taste, but I figured I’d get used to it. It sort of burned, but I thought- ah, that’s probably good…it’s doing its thing. About a week in, and it’s crazy. My bottom lip swelled so much that I couldn’t close my mouth. It hurt to move my tongue. The insides of my cheeks, gums, under my tongue, the area behind my lips and my entire tongue are burning! I have red spots everywhere inside my mouth. It got so bad that I went to the doctor today. Blood work all perfect. Doc said some kind of allergic reaction but unsure what, as we went over everything I ate and drank. Never dawned on me that a new toothpaste would be the cause! Then I google my symptoms and see a blurb about toothpaste- this one in particular. I found all of these reviews like mine, and I was floored to see how bad it was. I am now on steroids for a week, and they’re sending more blood work out to rule everything out. Told the doctor what I found about A&H, and she said stop using this. I just pray that it gets better because this pain sucks! Only good thing is that it hurts to eat, so maybe I’ll lose a couple pounds! It is insane that this is still being sold. Some of these reviews date back 8 years!

This is definitely a warning. I'm so glad I'm seeing these reviews. Sent me to the doctor as well. Swollen, dry and cracked lips, inflamed gums, dry mouth, tastebuds gone etc. It has truly been disturbing. I pray everyone's reviews help remove this product from the shelves.

“Damaging my mouth”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Beckettj259 on 19/03/2020

Damaging my mouth in similar ways to the other reviewers. It took me a while to put two and two together, the toothpaste always burned. Over time my mouth got more sore and torn and damaged and my lips too until one day after brushing my teeth I realized the culprit... I thought I was sick or something.

“Sore & bleeding gums”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Poshty on 09/11/2018

Like several other reviewers, I have sore, bleeding & burning mouth. I also thought I must’ve burnt my mouth, but realised that it was getting worse. I used a different toothpaste this morning and my mouth didn’t feel anywhere near as sore when brushing. I have obviously come to the conclusion that it’s the toothpaste, so it’s going in the bin.

“My mouth is on fire”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lizm2711 on 17/10/2018

My whole mouth became blistered and dry. The skin was peeling off the inside of my cheek and became raw. My lips are so dry I can't keep enough chapstick on them. It has made me feel totally miserable. I never in a million years thought that a toothpaste could do so much damage. With all the bad reviews I have seen I can't believe this product is still on the market.

Never been allergic to anything in my life until this toothcrap entered my house. My lips burned and peeled and even turned bright orange they were so irritated. Finally figured out what it was when we ran out and changed brand. Just here in the past few days decided to experiment with it again and sure enough I feel the burning starting again ...

“I look like someone gave me a fat lip!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CarolinaBeachBum on 08/06/2018

I am fortunate in that I did not experience the burning that many other reviewers spoke of. However, after three days of use, I started to notice tiny blisters at the outer edges of both my top and bottom lips, and this morning when I woke up, my lips are swollen to the point that I look like I've had lip augmentation! I had recently bought a new tube of lipstick, but I've used the Lancôme brand for years and I didn't think that was the problem. I decided to google Arm & Hammer toothpaste, and I was in shock at the posts citing allergic reactions! I'm going to try Benadryl to see if it helps with the swelling, but I will NEVER again use their products.

“Unfortunate to read reviews after purchase/use of product!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MacKenzieqe235 on 15/12/2017

Why does this product cause so much damage to my lips? It's like battery acid! I thought I trusted Arm & Hammer...not anymore. If I could get my money back, I'd spend it on postage to send letters to the company to STOP MAKING THIS PRODUCT because I do not believe anyone at the company will read this review or do anything to stop others from experiencing pain from use. It's like the #metoo of toothpaste.

written by JosiahRoberts on 20/06/2017

Recently bought this tooth paste..., after brushing my teeth today I noticed my gums on the lingual surface of my lower incisors were swollen, bleeding, inflamed and felt like I had burnt it on boiling water. Not realising it was the toothpaste at the time causing this trauma I used it later that day with the same results. Quite terrifying an over the counter toothpaste can cause this kind of reaction. Generally my gums are not sensitive and I'm not allergic to anything so it was a shock to me.

“Bleeding mouth!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Laytonl411 on 10/06/2017

Awful toothpaste! I used this once and when I spat out the foam it was thick with blood. I thought I had an STI! Turns out the whitening agent is an abrasive that tore my lips to shreds. Do not use!

“Burned my lips to shreds”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GabrielBarnett on 04/08/2016

I typically use a baking soda and peroxide based toothpaste, however, this one burnt my mouth and lips horribly. My lips peeled in angry shreds, and my gums were swollen, sore, and bled easily. As soon as I switched back to my old toothpaste and ditched this demon product my mouth returned to normal. I would only recommend this to my enemies.

“Gave me dry, cracked lips”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Arsenaultpy1961 on 23/05/2015

For the past few months, I've noticed some chapped and cracked skin in the corners of my mouth. I've never had this condition in my life (I'm 55 years old), and it's painful because these small cracks at the corner of my mouth split open nearly every day. And my mouth has been so dry when I wake up, my front teeth are actually sticking to the inside of my lips -- again -- nothing like this has ever happened to me. I couldn't figure out what the problem was and then, when it started occurring to me that it could be the A&H Extreme Whitening Toothpaste with Baking Soda and Peroxide, I made extra sure to rinse the corners of my mouth after brushing. Still no change. Today at lunch the inner corners of my mouth split open again. So just now I did a web search and found that many other people are experiencing the same problem, which resolved when they quit using this toothpaste. So effective immediately, I am no longer using this product.

“Burning Mouth, Dry Sore Lips”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Alfredos244 on 25/05/2014

For years I used Arm and Hammer with baking soda and more recently the Advance White product with peroxide as I was convinced this product would whiten my teeth. Who doesn't want whiter teeth! After years of seeking help from doctors and dentists, I have come to the realization that it is Arm and Hammer's toothpaste that has caused years of frustration and discomfort. Uurrgh!!! Burning and swollen tongue, gums, lips, mouth and upper throat, with dry, chapped and, recently, open sores on the corners of my mouth. Can't believe it took so long to figure out what was causing the problem. From thinking I had side effects from medication to allergies and infections, it has been very frustrating. I am not sure if this toothpaste whitened my teeth but I will never buy another tube and would never recommend this product to anyone. Hopefully parents are not allowing young children to use it. Warning message on the tube reads: "If irritation (such as redness, selling, soreness) of the gums or the mouth occurs, discontinue use and consult a dentist. Use for periods of longer than 8 weeks is to be only under the supervision of a dentist." Why didn't I read this years ago! Read the fine print people.

I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms from this product!
It has definatly whitened my teeth but in doing so has left me with a very sore mouth!
My symptoms arrived about 3-5 days after first using Arm & Hammer Extra Whitening toothpaste and like you was searching for reasons why. it was only when I had a brake in useage for approx 1month (when i used another brand) did I realise it must have been the toothpaste. So now 1week into my second attempt at using it my mounth has never been as sore!!
I will NOT be using this product agin and would NOT reccommend it to others for the above reason!

“Prohibit this toothpaste”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Krausetn450 on 16/05/2014

I did not realize that I had bought the "extra whitening toothpaste". I noticed it was different and did not give it another thought. One day my teeth felt really sensative. I could not eat cold foods. Unfortunately, I kept using the product until one day it dawned on me that it was the toothpaste. I was getting worse and stopped using the product. I have not used the toothpaste for one week. Today I am worried because my teeth still feel very sensative. Have I done permanently damage to the enamel on my teeth?

Just googled "baking soda and peroxide burning mouth" and found these reviews and realized it was this toothpaste by arm and hammer that's causing my mouth so much discomfort. This stuff should be banned and I'm so glad I figured out it was this bad toothpaste.

Yes, same here!? I used the Arm & Hammer Advance white and within hours the inside of my mouth felt burnt, sore & very sensitive. The corners of my mouth felt raw, skin became split, very red, swollen and very sore! I did have this a few weeks ago but couldn't 'put my finger on it', but now realise using it again that this bloody toothpaste has caused this! I should write to the company really!

“Totally NO GOOD!! A zero zero star. Nearly two weeks...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/09/2013

Totally NO GOOD!! A zero zero star. Nearly two weeks ago I started using this 'advanced white' baking soda and frosted mint toothpaste safter my girlfriend bought it by accident. I always used arm and hammer toothpaste with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide mint flavor, but never the advanced white one, and without h2o2. Funny that I started this on the same day of taking a shingles vaccine. The next day I felt some oddity like a slime skin in my mouth which with time I realized it was indeed shedding skin, like a snake does, and the inside of my lower lip feeling strange , very embarrassing talking when this slime skin surfaces in pieces on your lip. It has been ongoing and about the time of the onset a lesion appeared on inside of lower lip, and a few days ago, some ten days later a pimple appeared there also. I was thirsty at the start and wondering why. Yesterday was wondering if it were a weird reaction/ symptom from the vaccine and was going to tell my doc, since he told me to report any oddity. But searching on line for the skin peeling on the inside of lips I came across complaints on Crest. So I searched for the problem with ATM and Hammer and voila here I am. I will not brush tonight but use a floss and mouthwash , and toss this unfortunately 3 were purchased. And early go to buy the regular A and H one I had been using before.

I have the same problem , The dentist said it's a reaction to the tooth paste and it creates a sticky white substence.

I wrote to Arm & Hamer as I've be using the original for years but now they have discontinued it. No reply how courteous of them.

I would avoid this like the plague unless you want a horrible slime to appear in your mouth about an hour after brushing
