LG DR-7400

Having been used to a Video tape recorder, I found the LG DR7400 DVD recorder inflexible and difficult to get the hang of.

The deficiencies are: a small piece of a recording cannot be deleted as with tapes, it's either all or nothing. This means that the memory cannot be efficiently utilized. I find that I have to switch off the recorder then switch on again to get it fullly functioning from the controls. Basically its a two hour recorder, whereas a tape machine has four hours at reasonable quality. It won't accept PCLINE discs. In some circumstances it refuses to record, even although there is a reasonable amount of recording time left.

The LG machine in my opinion is a retrogressive step in technology which, whilst offering higher quality recordings, does not have the flexibility of a video tape recorder.

Having had no experience of other DVD rcorders, I do not know if this is typical of what to expect from them but it is certainly disappointing.

The LG DR 7400 is the typical garbage electronic device that you buy and after about two months it doesn't work anymore. I would expect that from a no name company for half the price - but LG? I guess this will be my first and last LG (life's garbage) purchase. I'll be looking around this site for a replacement way sooner than I ever thought I would.

Wish I had bought a different make/model. Poor Quality Recording When It Recognised A Disc.

Lost settings when powered off for only a second.

Playback of commercial discs defaulted to subtitles every time even when changed in setup.

I had the LG DR-7400 DVD recorder for two months before it went wrong. I only managed to record and keep 2 DVD's before it stopped recognising any discs.

Picture quality on TV channels was very poor.

It had a strange habit of starting DVD's in the most peculiar places, and it never loaded a DVD that went straight to the main menu - always started playing films right away.

It is not up to the standard of the other LG equipment that I have.
