“Two Trips and counting!”

★★★★★

written by on 06/10/2013

Two trips to Costa Rica...so far. I'd totally recommend this company to anyone. The pricing is very reasonable for all you get. Our tour guides are local with numerous contacts everywhere we went. Safety was never a concern. The hotels have been good - some less and some ridiculously awesome! I've appreciated the help they give along the way: answers to questions, power points to show, posters to put up, etc... The online ability to pick a trip and customize it is very cool. Collecting & hanging onto tip money is stressful - I'm glad they now offer the option to include it in the parents price & I'm out of it. Go on an Explorica trip!

What were the ages of your travelers? Do you happen to remember the names of the hotels in which you stayed?

THANKS!

“Superior personable service”

★★★★★

written by LeslieWilkie on 02/07/2013

I have worked with this company since 2004 and have received excellent service and value. Explorica works with me and my students to provide a safe, educational, and fun tour experience. I have toured NYC, Boston, London, Paris, Rome, and Puerto Rico with Explorica and have never been disappointed! I recommend Explorica for all your student travel! Well done Explorica!

“Very good experience at a good price”

★★★★★

written by marcos51 on 02/05/2013

I changed to explorica after the company I traveled with (4 times) raised their prices quite sharply. I was a wary, as I was very happy with the quality of the company I had worked with, but decided to give explorica a try. Explorica delivered the same quality or better on everything, 20 - 25% less than the other company. There were a couple of less than stellar meals, and I am concerned that Explorica seems to have a lot of turnover (two people with whom I worked on planning left the company). But I was impressed with the excursions, hotels, guides and communication. I've read some very negative things (and some positive), but my experience was very good, and my students had a great time. I am planning another trip with them.

“I love this company!”

★★★★★

written by Karen_Miller on 01/03/2013

In 28 days, I am leaving with my students on my third trip with Explorica. I have never worked with a student travel company that is so personal. Explorica has great customer service and fantastic tour consultants. I have had customized tours and asked for things that were not on any itinerary added for me. I have never had a problem on tour and the guides have always been very knowledgeable and deal well with children. I can not think of one thing that I have had an issue with with this company. They are simply fantastic!

Do you still travel with this company? I've read many bad reviews and am struggling with committing my high school tour to this company. Any recent feedback would be helpful.
Thanks

“They Always Surpass Expectations”

★★★★★

written by Joncjm on 28/02/2013

I have travelled with Explorica five different times. The individualized attention that their prograam consultants provide is invaluable. In addition, they have many outstanding tour directors to lead your tour. I have been approached by other tour companies to switch but I felt like I was a number rather than an individual with them. The price and quality of their tours can not be beat. Every tour has been amazing and then some. If you pick Explorica, you will have an amzaing experience from start to finish.

“Go with the BEST!”

★★★★★

written by ellen_teach on 28/02/2013

After several terrible experiences with two other touring companies, I went on a trip with Explorica. I shared my previous problems and made sure they understood that I would move on if they didn't meet my expectations. Not only were my expectations met, they were exceeded in all areas! I have traveled with Explorica for several years now and will continue to do so. I still check their competitors for pricing, and when I have found a price that is less (comparing apples to apples) Explorica has always beaten it. Two years ago we traveled with a student who was wheelchair bound and Explorica went out of their way to make sure that the young man was fully accommodated. Everyone I have met, talked to, or worked with at Explorica have been exceptional. This is a company that truly gives your and your students the most bang for the buck.

“Authentic experiences, easy on teachers”

★★★★★

written by booorak on 25/02/2013

They offer more, authentic experiences for a better price, than any of the competitors I’ve shopped including ACIS, EF etc. Their program coordinators and tour directors are knowledgeable and responsive to the desires I have had for my various tours. The ability to do everything online from tour customization to registration and payment makes my life so much easier as a teacher, and they continue to do more with technology all the time. When issues have come up, they have always responded and taken steps to make things right.

“Excellent student tour company”

★★★★★

written by TravelingTeacherSD on 24/02/2013

Having travelled with many companies, I can whole heartedly endorse Explorica. From the moment I began the journey with Explorica I was personally connected to one person at the local office. I knew her name and she knew mine and my needs. The hotels nearly all exceeded my expectations. In the chance one didn't, Explorica made up for it on tour! Student tours are not luxury experiences by any company and yet we stayed in hotels and at at restaurants I have been to before on more expensive adult tours. I have taken over 150 people to Europe on tours and Explorica is by far the best tour company. We had fantastic flights, great meals, friendly tour director who made the experience even better with her games and fun events along the way. When problems came up, they were handled quickly and easily. Unlike my experience with a previous, high profile company. I will be traveling with Explorica again this summer and in 2014. There is just no comparison in my book. My personal reputation is on the line and I trust Explorica.

“Trip of a lifetime!”

★★★★★

written by on 23/02/2013

Our trip, from start to finish, was smooth and enjoyable. The hotels were good. I love that some were family run and we got to meet the owners first hand. The guides, especially our tour director, were outstanding. We always felt safe, well fed, and well informed. Despite rain hitting us for multiple days in Athens, we truly experienced Rome and Athens and it will impact our students for a long time to come. This is the first tour that I've led with Explorica and now I can't imagine doing it with another company.

“Very accessible to ideas!”

★★★★★

written by on 22/02/2013

I have traveled with this company for the past few years. I have been able to design the trip based on my past experiences and so I am always happy with the results. They always listen to my concerns about hotels and restaurants and they are easy to work with. My group normally includes 30-37 students and 6 chaperones. Phil Todisco is the best! He and I have worked together for the past three years and he always works hard to see that we are satisfied. What I despise, truly despise, is the "robot" system of billing and notifying my students of billing issues. I handle all the money through my school's student account, therefore I sign up for "Manual Billing". Well, "Mr. Robot" doesn't acknowledge that, so I have to put my own email into the box for each and every student so that their families will not freak out. I am then the one who freaks out because there is a very punitive tone to the emails! Explorica needs to work on their communication via this system. Every teacher who does a manual payment should NOT BE SUBJECTED TO NASTY EMAILS! I intend to stick with Explorica as I always receive good value for the money. We have also been very happy with the tour guides.

“Outstanding Company with Great Service”

★★★★★

written by AvidTraveler1 on 22/02/2013

My husband and I are both teachers and have traveled over 10 times now with Explorica tours. The company is amazing. We have never been disappointed with the customer service, the tour details, or the tour directors (guides). Our tours have been to Central and South America and to Europe numerous times. Teacher's concerns will be addressed if you make them known. We have no intention of changing to another company.

“A breath of fresh air.”

★★★★★

written by on 15/02/2013

After two trips with EF and feeling like I'm nothing more than a number, Explorica has been a breath of fresh air. My program consultant, has been patient and informative. More importantly, she calls me when it works for me, not all day every day until I commit. She actually listens to my needs even after I have committed to travel with them. My tour hasn't left yet, but if the trip is anything like the service I've received so far, I’ll be traveling with this company for years to come.

“Explorica is Great!”

★★★★★

written by on 12/06/2012

Explorica is a great company and the tour guides they provide are excellent! They are VERY knowledgeable and the passion for travel is evident. They broke down the registration process very well so the steps are clear as to what is necessary for preparation. The payment was very easy as well and the trip I went on was very affordable. The hotels they booked were also nice. They were all spacious for our group and everyone fit in comfortably (I traveled with a large group of 30). The only problems was that I wish we would have learned more about the topic we were going to Europe for, the tour guide explained a lot but I wish we would have spent more time at those places. We did follow the itinerary pretty well there were some replacements because of lack of time or the site was closed but it was well adjusted. The only thing I would say is that I wish the tour guide would have planned sites or pointed out more sites pertaining to our topic and talked about them. Overall, I am pleased with Explorica and their tour guides and just the very easy and clear registration.

“I have worked with many different student travel...”

★★★★★

written by on 26/11/2010

I have worked with many different student travel companies over a 35 year career in teaching Foreign Languages. Explorica is BY FAR the best of them all......The key to any travel with kids is the rapport between the teacher and the students and holding regular meetings prior to travel. Educating the kids what travel IS and what it is NOT is key to the best possible experience. Explorica personel at every level are beyond helpful, competent and professional. It seems to me that if students (and teacher chaperones) travel with the idea of expecting "America and/or flawless travel they are fully missing the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and the chance to develop flexibility and patience. This is GOOD for all Americans and especially for our "instant gratification" youth culture. Explorica, with whom I have booked 10+ tours has NEVER disappointed and my students have memories of a lifetime. Thank you, explorica for all that you do to promote good will and education to our youth AND the traveling adults with them. The role model that adults display dramatically affects the students' experience.

Maybe they are great from a teacher's perspective - takes all the effort out of organizing the trip. But for the paying parents Explorica is a nightmare. All they care about is money. They keep on hitting you with demands for more money, late fees, surcharges etc.

Thank you and I agree with your comment. So far, I've only sent one of my children on an Explorica trip, and it was "put together", for lack of a better term, by his very experienced foreign language teacher who'd done it several times before. The trip was a success (Rome/Athens) and the kids (a group of over 50) all had a great time over the 11 days. He learned a few lessons about budgeting his spending money and resisting strong coffee too late at night, lol!

We reviewed the hotels and restaurants on line as soon as we had the detailed itinerary so that he had a general idea of what to expect and already knew who his chaperone and group of 4 would be. I was VERY impressed with how organized the teachers and other chaperones were well before they even left for the airport. I can see how this could be a struggle for a new/inexperienced teacher, but if you have your ducks in a row and a proper attitude, even cancelled flights, longer-than-expected bus rides, and sub-par meals can be muddled through.

This year, both he and my daughter are both signed up for their school's Costa Rica trip - same teacher and through Explorica once again. It's a different culture, and my kids are spoiled Americans, so before they go we'll have a family sit-down regarding expectations and etiquette.

As for the parents complaining about customer service and being harassed for payments, we opted to have automatic monthly payments over the past year and have had no problems (knock on wood). I took on a very part time job just for this expense and set it up as a separate account through my bank to minimize any potential problems with our existing accounts.

“We just registered 20 participants for a Paris/Rome...”

★★★★★

written by on 01/03/2010

We just registered 20 participants for a Paris/Rome trip in 2011. Our 2009 Paris-Rome was fantastic, so we are repeating the itinerary in 2011. Customer service is prompt, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. We selected the customized tour process which allows us to have a private, full-time guide, and upgraded meals/hotels. We LOVE the customized option...for example, it allows a group to have its own private tour...no other schools, students, or teachers to deal with. I have chaperoned student tours to Europe for nearly 30 years, and I have traveled with just about every company out there. By the way, Explorica is not the most $$ (NETC, ACIS) or the least $$(EF), but right in the middle. Keep in mind that a successful high school tour is based on preparation and planning of students. It takes me about a year to fully prepare my students for the culture shock of traveling to a foreign country. If students/teachers complain about these trips, then they usually don't have realistic expectations. If you want a "perfect vacation", then go to DisneyWorld. If you want to see the grand, the old, and the historic, then "do your homework" and visit the real deal in Europe. After all, isn't that why we travel to distant lands in the first place...to experience their authentic culture. Bon Voyage!

Explorica, Inc delivers what it promises and more. Our guide was very knowledgeable; she established an outstanding rapport with every member of our group and she made sure all details were taken care of expeditiously. The wide variety of first-class buffet style meals and the various menu options for set menus guaranteed a delicious fare for all. Explorica is, by far, the best--low prices, the best service, and a tremendous experience.

I've traveled with this company two times and they have delivered more than expected. You always run into last minute changes, but it always worked out. Their tour directors were very knowledgeable and worked very hard to meet our demanding last minute additions to our daily scheduled. Every evening we added activities and not only did they make the calls, but accompanied us. All hotels were clean and within walking distance or on a bus/metro line. The meals were varied and local guides were wonderful.

★★★★★

written by on 13/09/2009

I went on a trip with Explorica to Italy and Greece this year. It was amazing! We had the best tour guide. She gave us great insight into the history of the places we visited (Rome, Pompeii, Athens) as well as a great deal of information on the culture of the people in each place. We had plenty of time to visit each of the sites with time on our own to explore each location. We had a ton of fun at the Colosseum imagining we were gladiators! I know a lot of kids complain about the flights but I had my ipod and some games so it was cool. We had a blast in the airports looking at the different products and trying to guess what they were (the whole foreign language thing). I'm hoping to be able to go again this year!

written by tcwasher on 18/02/2009

Explorica provided my students and I with a memorable trip to Italy and Greece. in our opinion the six-to-one (student-to-teacher) was much better than we have experienced with other student travel agencies; our guide seemed knowledgeable, professional, patient, and personable; the parents loved the on-line tour diary; and we feel that we received more than we paid for. Even though Explorica tries to provide a balance of cuisine, we felt the food was weighty on the fried side. Also, in our opinion the $95 membership fee seems a bit extreme, if not unnecessary. I would highly recommend Explorica to any school looking for a quality tour.
