Review based on use of a Honda 197 cc 1985 BF100 (9.9 HP) later sold as 8 and 6 [shaft] HP that is still going strong. Used on a 12 ft plywood dinghy for river, lake, and sea fishing. Only need to remove the intake/exhaust manifold to clean the cooling system around the thermostat every few years, and replace the water impeller and engine and gear oil occasionally. I started with a 1976 7.5 HP Honda that developed corrosion - but had no anode protection. This motor has shown no signs of corrosion after several hundred hours use over 23+ years. Starts easily, quiet, smooth running, very fuel efficient, very long life if looked after and flushed after saltwater use.

I am on my third yacht with a Honda 8hp outboard auxiliary never had any problems whatsoever. Starts first time every time and just keeps on going, just add fuel.

The Honda 4 Stroke 8HP is a great dependable motor. My 1999 75hp has had no breakdowns or problems yet. It's super quiet and good on gas. Next boat must have a Honda 4 stroke. I haven't met anybody who didn't like his/her Honda.
