“Clean Credit repair”

★★★☆☆

written by Annebanner on 10/09/2022

If an individual or company is unable to pay debts, they may be forced to file for bankruptcy to receive legal protection. Filing for bankruptcy is an extreme event, and it is the most damaging event to an entity’s credit score. If a borrower files for bankruptcy, the information will be recorded in the credit report, and it stays there for seven years. Due to the complexity of bankruptcy cases, most lenders shy away from lending to borrowers with a history of bankruptcies and court cases relating to their financial situation. This could lead to a bad credit report and our credit specialists are here to make the corrections. Removing inquiries may make sense if you have previously been a victim of identity theft. Disputing inquiries is also advisable if a company has checked your report without permission, as this implies that the inquiry might lead to future identity theft. i once hired rocketskycredit via telgram to help with my total credit repair some months ago. It's totally worth it.

“Ok but nothing more .. ”

★★★☆☆

written by Woodyr448 on 06/03/2017

Took a long time to arrive, almost the full time allowed (11 days). Transactions are not immediately available to view and payments take days to come off your account. There are other credit building cards out there with better apps and a better way of administering your account. Will keep in the background as a "good credit record account" but wouldn't be my regular card.

“Bad credit ok”

★★★☆☆

written by Harper190 on 16/06/2016

If you have a bad credit rating then Vanquis could be for you. Unfortunately Vanquis tend to lead you astray when saying it will improve your credit rating!. Been wth Vanquis for 4 years, queried a few times about reduction in 39.99% rate but still on that rate. First time I queried was advised that I pay card to quickly. Second time I had amassed payment? Really?. Third time I need to borrow bigger sums of money and today was told they, Vanquis, just change your rate when their ready so no time scale. So it's goodbye Vanquis.

“Good and Bad”

★★★☆☆

written by Jones450 on 12/12/2015

Great that you can get up to 55 days interest free but Bad in that they charge you full amount of interest if you do not clear balance in full. They also still take your minimum direct debit payment out even if balance has been cleared in full?

“free money”

★★★☆☆

written by Murphy-Altio444 on 18/11/2015

people who borrow money always complain about paying it back this card is simple to understand it has a high interest rate because it has a high risk that people wont pay back on time now if you use it to buy petrol or anything to get you what you want then just pay the full amount back at the end of the month its great if your out and you need it urgent so it costs you nothing if you pay back on time and builds your credit history its not free money

“Credit increase leaves alot to be desired”

★★★☆☆

written by ajones32 on 22/12/2014

I have been with vanquis now for 14 months and find that only being offered one increase in that time from £250 upto £1000 quite a let down. Ive not missed any payments and pay around 30x the minimum payment if not more. On the other hand aqua card is alot better, ive been with them the same amount of time and ran my account exactly the same and they have increased every 4 months and started at £250 and im now at £1800, plus aqua also reduce your interest rate every year. I do appreciate the fact that when evanquis found information online of a bank card number close to mine they rang me and asked me to check my statement and issued another card. I must say that 14 months ago i couldnt get credit and this week i applied for a high street credit card with 0% for 24 months and then a rate of 18.9% i got accepted which goes to show it doesnt take that long to turn things around. I did get refused at first but after ringing underwriting they overturned it as thay can look at the application and credit check personally.

“Good for rebuilding Credit, Bad for Customer Services”

★★★☆☆

written by naff123 on 09/06/2014

I took this card out after being young and stupid with money and getting into debt a few years back in a view to rebuild my credit. It's a good card as long as you pay your balance in full every month! But when you do have an issue they are very reluctant to help so these days I just tend to stick to the online e-vanquish service, as you cannot go wrong. The thing what bugs me though is that they outsource the call centre's to Egypt and South Africa. But all in all it does what it says on the tin as long as your sensible you cannot go wrong.

I work at vanquis "executive relations" I think you have been lied to. We don't have a call centre in Jo-berg. Our offices are in London,Chatham,Bradford. Inbound calls such as customer service are in Chatham. Collections are based in Bradford.Retention's and admin are in London. So I am afraid I agree with previous comments. I also find your comment strange. Everybody who is successful in gaining employment at vanquis is credit checked,so I am somewhat surprised you gained employment. Why would you ask a customer service agent if vanquis have a centre in Jo-berg,when you supposed to have work there. Very strange.

“Gone over limit”

★★★☆☆

written by on 23/11/2013

I have loved my vanquis card until TODAY. I pay the minimum amount every month and check my balance almost weekly. At the beginning of last week I checked my balance, I spent half of what was available. I rang and checked it this morning to find that the interest had taken me over my credit limit so I rang straight away to make the necessary payment. I was due a credit increase on the 27th of this month which I was relying on to see me over the festive period. I asked them if going over my credit limit (although not by spending and I MUST add that I was only over for 2 days) would affect my increase? I was shocked and sickened to find that my increase has automatically been cancelled. Is it worth my while ringing the relevant department on Monday?

Hi I would say no as they work on an automated system. So the chances of the increase happening becuase of what happened is slim. Unless a line manager would be willing to override it however I doubt they would do that . Sorry couldnt be anymore help

Why apply for and use these type of cards if you know you cant afford to pay the balance of each month or if not, at least twice the minimum payment. Did you not check the APR.

Hi, I think this might happen to me too. I have gone over my credit limit by 30p, ( as I withdrew cash and thought the fee got deducted at next statement not immediately) and spotted this yesterday .... the same day I received a letter telling me about a limit increase.
I've paid a few pounds to being me back under the limit, but am now thinking I'll miss out.
Did they say when you might be eligible again? Can I ask if you were over your limit by much more than 30p?

Never ever use a credit card to draw cash! It also shows on your credit file and other lenders may think you are desperate for cash.

Paying the minimum payment is very dangerous, the interest along would amount to nearly the minimum payment amount! As for going over you're credit limit that is your own stupid fault.Furthermore, Vanquis will never increase your limit as a result! It seems to me maxing up your limit gives the impression your irresponsible and credit hungry! Personally, pay more than the limit for example, if your minimum payment is five pounds three would be interest,so I would suggest you pay at least fifty to sixty per month.

“50 Transaction limit”

★★★☆☆

written by mattkeen on 30/10/2013

So I run my account well and pay it off every single month in full. To be honest given that fact and that I never ever give them any money I don't have an issue with them at all. i.e. I never need to contact them, they don't contact me and all is good. However I've exposed a massive issue with their online banking because I use it for everything I do. Believe it or not their system can only show 50 transactions in any given month, to make it worse it's not the last 50 it's the first 50! So now on the 30th of the month, I can't see anything after the 16th. Which kind of makes the whole point of the system (checking your transactions) pointless. Seriously, who on earth in their business signed this off!

“Fraud was sorted.. slowly”

★★★☆☆

written by Manitee on 25/04/2013

Main bad points: You get sporadic phone calls advertising payment insurance. It is not a secure card, on line purchasing does not use any sort of 3D verification like other cards. Transaction attempts were made on my card and blocked by vanquis as they were obviously unusual, however I was not informed at the time, only when they had reattempted (successfully) to use my card a month later. I was contacted to check it was fraud, and they sorted it out and eventually paid me a refund (two months later). It seems irresponsible that they knew fraudulent use had occurred, but not notify me until later when a successful fraud transaction had been made..? Customer services were generally quite polite and helpful. However I had to ring up and push them to pay my refund as they told me it would be paid twice and did not. My advice: Don't get it if you can get a different one as it doesn't seem very secure. If you have to deal with customer services, be polite but pushy as they seem slow to process things otherwise.

“Vanquis - only for people with bad credit”

★★★☆☆

written by on 25/05/2012

Looking at some of the reviews it is clear that a vast majority of people have misunderstood what vanquis is about, yes the interest rates are woeful, however, this card is designed as a LAST RESORT for people with bad credit and do not want to go down the extortionate pre paid card route. PLEASE NOTE THIS CARD IS DESIGNED TO HELP YOU REBUILD YOUR CREDIT SO YOU CAN APPLY FOR A BETTER CARD WITH BETTER INTEREST RATES. If you keep to your payments then you will be fine, keep to the 250 limit and pay it off in full at the end of each month. Simple. It's a hard pill to swallow for some people out there but if you borrow money you have to pay it back! And believe me I have learnt that the hard way, other wise I would not be in the Vanquis pool.

“A bit dodgy...be alert.”

★★★☆☆

written by BlackDove on 14/03/2012

I have had my Vanquis credit card for about 3 months now. I am new to the UK and new to credit, so I could not obtain a mainstream credit card. After I was approved a £500 limit, they immediately offered me a cash advance of £200 which I promptly rejected due to its higher interest rate. Without requesting for a new card I was sent one to my surprise, phoned up customer service and was told to shred the former one and used the new. However, my old PIN did not work with the new card. So I waited for the new PIN which also did not work. This whole episode embarrassed in so many shops, that I now had to order for another card and PIN. I am yet to find out if this new card and PIN will allow me make purchases in shops. Although it continues to function properly for online purchases. Its come loaded with a repayment option plan and identity theft protection both of which will set you back about £10 monthly. I have just phoned up to cancel both. My previous experiences with customer service had been very good but the guy I asked to cancel the repayment option plan was to say the least unprofessional and rude. It could help you improve your credit rating if you keep up your payments, however, DO NOT carry a large balance on this card. Please SCRUTINISE your statements too.

written by on 22/12/2010

The good points are that it is easier to get one of these cards than other credit cards if your credit isnt so good, the down side is that they advertise that this is a way to get a better credit score where i dont actually think it is, they have now offered me a gold credit card and have raised my limit 6 or so times, this is thought would mean i had a better credit rating, however they have also raised the interest rate to 54%!!!!! This would indicate a bad credit rating.........i would say that its an ok card but pay off each month or at least keep it to a minimum and only use it for emergencies.

Not a fan of the customer service; working night shifts then being woke at half 8 in the morning for a advisor with attitude on the line doesn't do well for customer relations

Just be careful when paying the monthly payment; it takes 3 days to process and ive fallen foul of late payment fee's despite paying it before the due date

“I've used Vanquis for several years, and it is what it...”

★★★☆☆

written by romeshw63 on 09/12/2010

I've used Vanquis for several years, and it is what it says on the tin, primarily for use to repair your credit rating. By lending to customers with poor credit history, Vanquis compensates for that risk by charging a higher interest rate.

I'm disappointed by the number of other reviewers, who apparently don't know how a credit card works! DON'T get near your limit, if you don't pay your balance off in full every month you WILL get charged interest. If you go over your limit you WILL get hit with a penalty. It's the same with any card!

I have no complaints about customer service, but there are some negatives:
- no internet access to view statements etc
- Vanquis keep sending credit card cheques (DON'T EVER USE!)
- between the two poor credit history cards, Capital One is the winner

I used both Capital One and Vanquis to repair my credit history, which has been a success and am now moving onto more mainstream cards.

“Go in with your eyes open. Useful for bankrupts. ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 20/10/2010

Go in with your eyes open. Useful for bankrupts.

I knew what I was in to when I applied for this card, but got caught out for cash charges when loading money onto a betting website. I'm not a gambler, but I'm Spanish and was putting a small (£20) bet on Spain in the world cup (won £100 yay!). Anyway, cost me about £6 in various charges even though it was paid off straight away. I've also just had the very dubious 'minimum finance charge' of £1.

I feel bad for anyone who gets caught out with astronomical interest and other charges, but this card is only ever going to work for you if you pay the balance off in full every month. Don't pay by Direct Debit either - manage the payments yourself and pay at least 1 week before due date. I think the person who got screwed because they were taking 2 payments in the same month will agree, so learn from their experience.

Good for what it is and helps rebuild your credit rating. I also have a CashPlus card with 'Credit Builder' which is good, but costs £5 per month. So even if the Vanquis card costs me £1 per month in the dodgy 'minimum finance charge', it's still relatively good value. Infact, I already had the CashPlus card when I got this one - the aim was purely to use it to improve my credit rating, not borrowing.

I was turned down for a Capital One card and didn't have any alternatives, but will ditch this card as soon as my rating improves.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I have a crdit limit of 250 and the card is only going to be used for extreme circumstances and thats all i will use it for. if i was some one that wanted to get a card i would highly recommend the Capital One

★★★☆☆

written by mrswiff on 30/04/2010

Having borderline credit problems, I applied and got a Vanquis card, with no great hassle, the application process was quick enough and the contact back from them to confirm I was who I said I was, happened the day after I applied online and I was approved immediately.

I have tried to use the card sparingly, as the interest rate is quite awful, but the card serves a purpose, to try and repair credit, so in that case, it is a good idea, as long as the card isn't abused and overused.

As a stop-gap and a means to get back on better credit terms, it's a winner. As a permanent credit card, no, look elsewhere or better still, try and get a VISA debit card on your bank account, as these can be used worldwide where the VISA sign is displayed, no credit card needed.

Most card companies, along with the banks, are reluctant to lend/increase limits because of the current financial situation. Although things seem to be getting better, it may be a long while before they start to lend like they used to. Then again, that's what got us in to the mess in the first place. I, personally, would avoid building up a large balance with Vanquis. It will take you a lot of time (and money) to clear it. I was paying £150 per month on a £3000 balance and was clearing pennies every month. Once you start to rebuild your credit score, try a more reputable lender without the eye watering interest rates. Good luck!
