General Comments
I think the Audi A6 1.8T Auto is vastly underrated. Much better than the BMW 5 series. Roomy and comfortable. Dealers going the BMW way - arrogant and unhelpful.

Audi A6 is a great car, but having upgraded mine recently to a Bmw 528i, I can definatly say the 5 series is a better car, as any comparison review will tell you. The Bmw is much more the drivers car. It goes, turns, stops and does everything in regards to driving enjoyment better. Build is very similar between both cars, with the Audi being a more leasurely drive with softer suspension.

I agree that BMW is the "drivers" car. I have driven both cars in the new A6 and 5 series and the BMW is the better car. The build quality is slightly better on the Audi but there's not much between them. Despite everyone moaning about the I-drive system in the BMW Audi can clearly see the advantage and have introduced their version called MMI (multi media interface). I drive the 525d SE and find the I-drive to be an absolute doddle to use. Yes it has foibles but you soon learn those.

The Audi is good but it pulls max torque at 1400 rpm. I test drove the A6 3.0 Tdi Quattro and it ain't much fun in traffic. The car constantly wants to go and it doesn't feel comfortable. My BMW hits max torque at 2000 rpm so it does make it easier around the town. The Audi is also very firm but it seems firm for firm's sake?? If you hit a bump or take a speed bump at 20mph everyone in the car gets a jolt. It doesn't handle as well as the BMW which takes bumps and speed humps in its stride.

I prefer the BMW but may end up with the A6! Weird I know but read my review on the 525d SE and it will make sense.

I own Both a BMW 5 and An A6 2.4. The BMW is a far better drivers car. Certainly better built with better quality seats. However the audi has lights every where. The BMW is a quieter car to drive at speed. I have seen read that the A6 suffers wind noise at motorway /freeway speeds. This is definitely true. The BMW is a better car all ound and the Audi is the cheaper alternative, and a worthy one at that. Choice depends on wallet. However I am glad I didn't spend 30K new price for it. I would have felt shortchanged.
