I was rather sceptical about oakfurnitureland.co.uk, partially due to the fact that their prices seemed too good to be true. After placing an order with them for over £1000 though, I have to admit I was being rather unfair. The order was for a Cairo oak Welsh dresser, a Rivermead oak glazed hall storage/display unit and a Dakar oak TV stand/storage unit. As the order reached their £1000 threshold I was eligible for a huge free mirror too. The items were received about 6 weeks after placing the order, admittedly not the quickest if you're impatient (or paranoid about them going bust), but it gave me time to make some necessary preparations. Items are all depatched at the same time, so the slowest lead-in time will dictate matters. Apparently the furniture is made in China incidentally, (they're quite upfront about this when asked), and is generally made to order rather than ex-stock. If you live nearby, they have showrooms in Cheltenham, Chester and Stockport, so you can see what you're buying beforehand. The quality is pretty darned good actually, and there was no damage whatsoever on delivery. The items were all very well packaged and the delivery crew were excellent; they even helped me carry some old furniture down to my cellar. I gave the items a thorough look over immediately, and my main criticism of the furniture was an element of 'roughness', particularly exposed edges; you could easily catch a splinter when rubbing your fingers along. I spent a few hours rubbing down ALL exposed edges with fine sandpaper to soften them a bit. It really was well worth the effort. After this was completed I can honestly say the design, craftsmanship, finish and overall effect is most impressive. I'd guess that the principal units are about half the price of high street shops. I admit that some of the semi-concealed areas are a bit basic, but hey, what the heck?. It's over a month now since delivery and there's no sign of movement or other problems. Incidentally I saved £50 courtesy of Myvouchercodes (and was also lucky enough to have placed my order before the VAT increase kicked in). I have no affiliation to the company, but as I inferred previously, I am most impressed. I'd reckon that the vast majority of their customers are quite happy with their purchases, but the minority who HAVE had problems are most likely to be found venting their spleen on the Internet. I'd take the risk if I were you.
