“I chose ETA breakdown cover to be ethical but didn't...”

I chose ETA breakdown cover to be ethical but didn't realise it would compromise customer service. I had to wait THREE HOURS on the M69! They'd sent one recovery driver out who'd apparently driven up and down the motorway and couldn't find us. I'd given the motorway marker post number we were right next to and had the Highway Agency patrol confirming where we were, yet the operators insisted on blaming me for giving them wrong info and said we weren't on the M69 and wanted to charge us for the drivers mileage! The second recovery found us straight away with less info in less than 30 mins. Please don't use the ETA. It was night time and cold but we were lucky it wasn't raining and had no children, elderly or animals with us. I am worried about people experiencing this who do have any of the latter or in bad weather.

I took out cover thinking it was a great deal - £75 including European cover. I was told it would cover me fully. Well I broke down a hundred miles from home on a Friday early evening. It turns out my cover only got me a maximum of 15 miles from where I broke down. What use is that? To take me home I would have had to pay around 300 pounds with ETA.

I was mis-sold this policy and left in awful trouble when I needed them most. Now they have the audacity to send me a renewal letter. Their customer service was rubbish as well. When I rang up explaining that I had not been told of the limited nature of the cover, the man just said, "it's your fault and you should have read the policy". Oh did I mention they want £122 this year.

I don't think so somehow.

My advice - be very clear about what you're getting in your policy so that you're not left stranded and desperate.
