I've used Maplin for years, back in the day when they were more known for the electronic component catalogue, and in the last few years since they've opened a number of stores near me.



I generally use them because I'm too impatient to wait for delivery on slightly cheaper items from the web and often their prices aren't that much more considering they are 'bricks and mortar'not long ago I upgraded two friends PC's using RAM from Maplin as there was hardly any price difference.



Flash Memory on the other hand seems wildly expensive, from £25 to £40 for a 8GB USB Pen! - (bought an SANDISK 8GB for £15 from Morrisons, and an HP 8GB from WHSMITHS for £17 only last month)



£50 for a Class 2, 8GB Micro SD Class!

(16GB Class 4 Micro SD for £17 from 7dayshop)



Product quality can often vary, I went through 4 TRUST Universal Laptop Mains adaptors each one failing after a few months, which were replaced without quibble the final time, it being replaced with an own branded model, which bizzarely presumably being a no-name Chinese import has lasted longer than all the 4 Trust branded ones put together!



Recently I've Bought a PC USB Slide and Negative scanner which was on a special offer around £30 and does exactly what it says on the tin, as well as several Upscaling HDMI DVD Players for myself and friends with no problems at all.



The only completely rubbish product I purchased from them was a £4 keyfob that was supposed to respond to whistling to help you find lost keys. 2 miles down the road when it beeped non-stop every time the beat changed on the car stereo the damn thing went out the window!



Anyway the final reason for posting this review:- being on their email list, I received a notification of a store opening the next day, I went out of my way to attend to look out for any opening offers to find it not opening for another week! Being rather put out to say the least by this I emailed to complain not expecting to hear anything, and less than an hour later the MD himself replied to deal with my complaint, so in all fairness I can't really fault the customer service.
