We had lunch in the newly revamped Exeter in Easton today. Verdict:
Lovely restoration job, nice wood-burner in bar, great eating areas & menus. Food was patchy, however. My main (duck, £15) was tiny with one potato and a small dollup of spinach plus absence of some of the flavours advertised on the menu. Victoria's lamb (£16.50, and ordered pink) was well done on the outside and raw inside. It went back and came out nuked. They didn't charge us for it in the end. However, desserts (bread 'n' butter pud, and cheesecake) were sublime and well worth £5.75 each. Service was slow despite it being quiet and there was no offer of bread &oils to break the waiting. Water ordered to come with food arrived after we'd finished. Overall, a bit disappointing, but should be good once they get into gear. The Collyweston Slater up the road needs to up its game big time!
