The Skilled Helper Gerard Egan. This is a splendid book. Every word well selected to convey the complex in a simple way. The book rings out with authentic views for troubled times and people. It practical nature means that it will always be useful and read again and again. The part that made the most impact was the reference (in the preface), to the 'hollow effect' wherein doing good is not counted as nothing bad happened. This is an issue that if resolved would make the world a better place. As a teacher I am aware thast most of what is covered would do a great deal of good if applied, even in part, to the cross cultural students that I teach.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys solving problems in a pragmatic way.
