Guest's review of John Fowler, St. Ives Holiday Village

“My family arrived at St Ives Holiday Village, which is...”

Written on: 19/08/2010

My family arrived at St Ives Holiday Village, which is in fact about 3 miles outside of St Ives, after a gruelling 9 hours journey from the Midlands. On arrival we were pleased with our first impressions. The outside entrance was bright and well cared for, neat and tidy. However that was where it ended! We parked up and went to the reception where we and other families, with young children and babies, were asked to return in an hour at the booking in time of 4pm and because our accomodation was not yet ready. We returned an hour later and were given the keys to chalet 101, a bronze budget accommodation, along with a welcome pack and a cover for the bed settee. When we parked up and saw the 'hut' we were going to be staying in we were very disappointed to say the least. The hut was falling apart, boards were broken, paint was peeling off and it generally needed a good overhaul. When we went inside we were amazed that we had been kept waiting at reception as the place clearly had not been cleaned. It was smelly and dank, the sofa collapsed in the middle, there was sand on the floor, the carpets were sticky and dirty. No storage space and all in all not a very nice place at all. The windows and sills were filthy and wouldn't close and the thought of having to spend our weeks holiday there was very depressing. We immediately went and complained to the management. We explained that the web site impression of the accomodation was a world apart from the reality. The gentleman we spoke to named Ray was most helpful. Apparently he had been brought to the site to bring it up to standard. He seemed genuinely embarassed at the state of the site. He didn't have anything else available at this park but, gave us a few alternatives which included moving us 20 miles away to another park, which it turned out did not have anything available, or to another park 3 miles away at Tolroy Manor. We moved into a gold standard house. No complaints here. Accomodation more than adequate for our holiday requirements, clean and tidy. Staff all very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Camp entertainment suitable for needs, but only if site used as a base.
