I love the opening scenes that have the titles incorporated into the shots creating a stylish and calm base for the film. Moon is set in a solitary space station where Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) has only the company of GERTY, a computer voiced by Kevin Spacey complete with emoticons to convey "his" feelings to Sam. Sam is coming to the end of his three year assignment and longs to go home to his wife and child back on Earth. Unfortunately as time goes by it appears that Sam might be losing his mind and the film spirals off as Sam believes that all is not quite right in the space station.
The photography of the film is beautifully shot and has a classic feel reminiscent of 2001 and Barbarella. Sam Rockwell, as usual, pulls off a powerful performance that makes his character really believable and totally sympathetic. The story is simple but just when you think it is going to go all 2001 on you it moves off into a totally different tangent and builds to a satisfying ending. There is a distinct lack of CGI which is great as this allows the characters to really shine without putting them amongst flashy graphics like George Lucas. Really worth watching in HD or on Blu-ray.
