I spotted this book at an airport bookshop. The title grabbed my attention. I thought 'How can there be any secrets about management.'After flicking a few pages, I was hooked. The first couple of pages were filled with reviews by real managers, with comments such as...They should have read us this book in business school instead of teaching us the perfect marketing theory...This is the most valuable book on management that I have ever read...no-holds-barred observations...too true. I really like the honesty...has muscle and sinew that have been exercised in real life competition, etc. Having read the book I agree with all that. The 'LAWS' tell how People tolerate being managed, but love being lead. And how 'Deadlines often backfire'. And why 'Most managers give their worst tasks to their best people.'The writing hooked me. I had never realized that management could be so interesting, even fascinating. And in reading, I've learned just as much about people, how the think, and why they do things as I have about management. Surprisingly, the book lives up to the slightly gimmicky title, delivering even more than it promises. My team is in for a surprise. I'm back from vacation soon! And things are just about to change - for the better.
