“Leonardo plays U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels who's...”

Leonardo plays U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels who's charged with his partner Mark Ruffalo to investigate the disappearance from a Boston prison on Shutter Island. He's driven by personal reasons to find out what's going on on the island and to un-cover and maybe get revenge on his wife and kid's killer! Bit by bit we're lead into a TOTAL paranoia movie involving government conspiracies, nazis, the secret service, experimental drugs, and walls of silence. Teddy is one hot and hard hitting cop, he doesn't like the closed door policy of the hospital. He can't make calls out of the hospital after a storm, he is unable to see other prisoners without supervision of suspicious chief doctor ben kingsley. As a final straw he is denied access to all personnel files. Despite all this he find's a piece of paper that suggests there's 1 more prisoner in the asylum. Soon the escaped prisoner is found, but Teddy is sure that something else is afoot! He needs to find out who and he suspects the hospital is hiding something criminal! After a time Teddy starts to receive visitations from his wife in lucid dreams and he suspects the hospital is trying to make him insane and is giving him mind altering drugs. His partner as well starts to act suspiciously and Teddy starts to go it alone. This movie is better than all of Martin Scorsese's movies to date. It surpasses Taxi Driver in terms of it's complexity and tension. Scorsese's other movies have featured on the development and destruction of the protagonist. This movie follows in a similar vein. What set's it apart is our empathy for the main character and following his side. The performances of all actors are outstanding but I'd say it's the script and direction that kept this movie fast-paced and intriguing. I've not seen a great paranoia movie like this from Hollywood for a LONG LONG time. I'd say it matches Jacob's Ladder and Fight Club in terms of a great storyline! I would not have thought that De Caprio could have pulled this off, but I was amazed. I think he was selected for the role as he's a trusted good guy. This movie will have you glued to the screen. You can't leave for more pop-corn without pausing [as it's now out on DVD]. It's a movie that demands a SECOND viewing to get the most from the plot and say...."Ahhh.... now I get it", like Fight Club!
