This has happened to many people in many other cars, including myself in more than one occasion. Ford for example due to bad design of the cruise control unit, and toyota with the recent stuck accelerator cable cases.
But...there is this big but....
A car is a machine, and machines do and always will have faults!

So I'm sorry but I'm afraid, your wife is more dangerous to be on the road than the car!!

I guess the car is automatic (showing your wife's inability to dive a real car in the first place), because if it was manual the clutch and the brakes would stop the car even if the engine was doing 9000RPM.

Even in an Automatic car you can slide the gear selector to neutral at any speed, that again would stop the car!!

Why was she unable to use these basic controls (basically she could not drive the car)

No....instead she did the most intelligent thing, pick up the mobile phone at 110km/h

Now let me ask? what would she do if she was in the kitchen and the oven started overheat glow red or smoke? Phone you to ask first, or switch it off? Why could she not think to switch off the car engine....which to me was dangerous too because then you loose power steering and brakes, and so should only be done as last resort.

Get her off the road, or teach her to drive before she kill herself or somebody else.
I'm sorry but it is the truth!

Absolutely agree. Some of the worst accidents I have ever seen have been in Greece. I seriously doubt whether this man's wife actually had a licence or insurance. I have driven in Greece for over two years and the amount of people that have openly told me that they have paid for their licences has amazed me. I don't think that the above review is a fair representation of the Mercedes A Class. It is a fair review of the incompetence of Greek drivers.
