Potterton Gold 28 HE Review

We have the Potterton Gold 33 HE which is just the higher output version, it gives a great HW flow so no complaints there. The controls on the front of the boiler are very easy to understand & use. It's not the most attractive boiler out there but most of them will more than likely be tucked away in a cupboard.



My only real criticism so far is that it's quite a noisy boiler compared to others I've heard. My friend has an Alpha boiler & you can hardly hear it when it's running so I would bear this in mind if your boiler is in a location where the noise could be a nuisance like a bedroom!



From the beginning of this year the guarantee is only 2 years, but if you happened to get a boiler that has sat on the shelf for a while you could still get 3 years as I believe it depends on when the boiler was made (serial number)



I hope this Potterton is reliable as the one it replaces as that one had to be getting on for 20 years old & was still going but showing its age a little.



From what I've read on reviews Potterton / Baxi's seem to suffer a lot from PCB faults, a lot of the time this is nothing more than a bad solder joint, normally somewhere around one of the many plugs that connect to the PCB, I had this fault once with my old boiler and the engineer fixed it with a dab of solder! so if your told the PCB is faulty make sure the engineer has checked for bad solder joints on the PCB before you pay for a new one!
