“I bought this in order to place in my study so I could...”

I bought this in order to place in my study so I could make tea / coffee while working. It fitted in with the decor, and having its own water reservoir meant that I did not have to constantly go to fill it up (I have a table top fridge for milk).

It made decent tea and coffee for all of three months of relatively light use (1-2 cups per day), and then they water just started coming out of the kettle cold. Since I have somewhat of an understanding in electronics I opened it up to have a look, and see if it was something obvious like a loose connector.

It all looked fine, however the entire design was very much underengineered. The cable to connect to the heating elemt was far too small, and the entire current of the element was being put through a pcb (for those that don't know thats a very bad design, as most pcbs can't handle anywhere near the power it was carrying).

I therefore sent it back to tefal for a second one, and after about three months the same thing happened. While tefal had handled the first warrenty claim this time they refered me to amazon, who in turn refered me to tefal etc. etc.. Eventually I gave up, and bought a kettle and a jug.

This is much cheaper, and will almost certainly be much more reliable.
