IG Index is one of the oldest and largest financial spread betting firms. I've summarised the pros and cons of my experience with them below:



Advantages

1. Wide range of instruments to trade

2. Easy to use trading platform with extensive functionality (NB works much better when not using Internet Explorer to access it. I recommend either Chrome or Firefox)

3. Good customer service. I've never waited more than a few seconds before the phone is answered (by a person)



Disadvantages

1. Some instruments require higher deposits than competitors. IG does allow you to trade without a stop-loss though, if that is how you like to trade

2. Wider spreads. Again, this doesn't apply to everything, but the spreads for the regularly traded instruments (FTSE 100, Oil etc) tend to be larger
