RossF4716's review of Malorie Blackman, Noughts and Crosses

“Noughts and Crosses was a fairly enjoyable read....”

Noughts and Crosses was a fairly enjoyable read. Malorie Blackman chose an excellent theme and I enjoyed reading about the differences between white people and black people she portrayed in her novel.

However I did feel some of the storylines were slightly exagerated and perhaps a bit to strong. Despite this the characters were brilliantly portrayed and the plot was gripping and very good.

Having also read Malorie Blackman following books in this series. I would highly recomend the series although I feel the following novels lack that extra something that I enjoyed in Noughts and Crosses.

In the book several bad things happen to one family simply because of their race. The author clearly shows she has adequate skill in developing a plot and is also very good at creating characters that will develop with the plot.

My only critiscism of the book and perhaps the series is that the author seems to dwindle on the theme of racism a bit to much. Perhaps it could be just my personal opinion but I wanted a bit more variety in the plot.

Having said that the ending of the book was very thought provoking and the question that it begged was " what could have have happened differently". The book makes you really think about and appreciate how lucky we are and also stirs some deep feelings of shock that human beings are capable of such callous deeds.

Noughts and Crosses is a very enjoyable book, not the best I have read but certainly worth reading so please do so!
