Microsoft Windows Vista Review

I'd used Windows XP for many years and absolutely loved it (5 stars). I bought a new low-end laptop 4 months ago with Vista pre-installed, and my experience has been much worse.



What I like about it, is it still has all the function of XP - it's still a sophisticated OS. It was also very easy to get the wireless access working (easier than XP).



Its weakness is the performance. On my laptop, Vista consumed most of the memory just to run, which meant it ran very slowly indeed. XP would have run fine. I did improve things by turning off the "aero" look and feel, which made it look less good, but run faster (a good tradeoff as far as I'm concerned). I also switched from IE as my browser to Firefox, which speeded it up again.



Overall, I'm not terribly happy with the purchase, I wish I'd got XP again.
