I bought my first Magimix in the 1970's & loved it, so I was expecting great things from the 5100 I bought to replace it. I wish I hadn't bothered. The safety mechanism between the lid and bowl jams so tightly it renders the processor unusable most of the time. According to the handbook it is for my protection and will "give" with time. It doesn't! The only way I can use the processor is by brute force. The bowls do not dish wash well, despite the manufacturers claims, they cloud, crack and splinter. I am now on my third bowl and second lid; to replace the complete set costs around £100. Another thing that annoys me is that each time Magimix bring out a new model you have to replace any extra discs you bought (julienne cutter, etc.) as the 5100 discs do not fit 5200 as the bowl assembly is different.
My advice? Forget it! If you want to bake bread/cakes, buy a good quality mixer (Kenwood Chef or Kitchenaid. If you want to slice & chop buy a good mandolin and a couple of good quality knives. If you want to make soup buy a blender but don't bother with the Magimix. It's a waste of time, space and money.
