We have a 1-year-old Golden Retriever and a 10-year-old German Shepherd and they both eat the Iams Large Breed food and do beautifully on it. Our Golden Retriever was raised on the Iams Large Breed Puppy formula. They both have shiny, soft coats, firm stools, and have a ton of energy. To anyone saying that Iams gave their dog runny stools, did you gradually transition your dogs to the Iams, or did you just suddenly/quickly change their food to Iams from something else? You need to make any changes in food very gradually, usually over a couple of weeks. You do this by mixing your old food with the new food, half and half. If you do it too fast, it will cause the dog digestive upset, which will cause the loose, runny stools. Iams is a solid dog food that has been around for years and years and many dogs thrive on it, including ours. In fact, every vet that we have talked to has had nothing but good things to say about Iams. Keep in mind, though, that all dogs are different. While one dog does well on a certain food, another dog may not do so well on it. You just have to find a food that your dog does well on and stick with it. Iams is what works for our two dogs.
