malcsreview's review of Peugeot Sum-Up 125

“I have owned about 40 motorcycles and scooters since...”

Good Points
Big for a 125 scooter, looks smart, did 89 mpg(checked). Cheap to buy new but turned out to be poor value. I wish I had spent more and bought a 2nd hand Japanese scooter ( Honda, Suzuki or Yamaha.)

Bad Points
Seat slopes forward and is very smooth and slidy, so you constantly slide forwards. Lots of faults, constantly back at dealers, parts take a long time to arrive. Rear brake (drum) is very weak. Mirrors poor. No matter have I adjusted them I could not get a reasonable view to the rear. Low power ( only 7 BHP) it is ok around town but once on a main road it struggles. My top speed was 50 mph but it struggled to get there. The practical cruising speed was about 40 mph which is unacceptable for a 125cc scooter.

General Comments
I have owned about 40 motorcycles and scooters since 1966, but the Sum Up has been the worst value for money of any I have ever owned. I had it for 6 months and it was back at the dealers about half a dozen times. Only minor problems, such as broken weld on mirror mount, loud rattle from engine casing, kickstart mechanism faulty, blanking plug on fairing shot out when riding, replacement never obtained by dealer despite requesting numerous times.

Parts took several weeks to arrive from France. I counld not believe a main dealer could not source parts quicker, I lost confidence in the bike and felt that it would continue with faults developing, and as the dealer took several attempts to put some of them right it did not engender confidence. I found out that the bike was not made in France but in China. The mechanic (main dealer) told me that they did not know the were made in China when they decided to sell them. He added that they would not have took them on if they had known that. I would not have bought one if I'd known they were made in China. The mechanic added that they were'crap' when he was struggling with the repairs. That is not what he told me when I spoke to him prior to purchas to ask what they were like. I paid £1600 new and sold it through the dealer for £1000 with about 1200km on clock and 6 months old. I was delighted to get shut of it. I would not recommend this scooter to anyone

I found this review very helpful because...My son owns a Sum-up and Peugeot will not take responsibility for it not having worked correctly since about 6 weeks after it was bought . My son is disabled and they dont give a dam.
