Good Points
1. Very smooth & balanced twin cylinder. 2. good looks 3 Ultra reliable 4. good fuel consumption 5. good torque 6 easy to mantain. 7. relatively quiet. 8 spare space under the cover for tools and a place to store extra sheer pins and cotter pins. 9. 100:1 fuel to oil ratio which costs 50% less money for oil than most others that run 50:1
Bad Points
no shallow water-drive 2 difficult to start when cold 3. the primer bulb is prone to malfuntion, I highly recommend replacing it with a better one especially if you go to remote places like I do.
General Comments
I'm reviewing a 2001 DT6. This motor weighs a little over 60lbs. and has amazing torque. I used to run a 5hp merc single cylinder that didnt compare to the torque of this twin cylinder suzuki. On a recent hunting trip the motor used 5 gallons of gas for 62 miles of boating to include hauling a moose on the return trip. You will get 1-2 mph more speed if you run high-octane fuel. The motor pushed my 17ft. Old Town Discovery sport canoe about 18-19 mph top speed. Make sure to have a 6.5pitch prop for heavy loads and a 7.5 pich prop for top speed.
