Good Points
My starter (goats cheese salad) was well balanced and enjoyable.

Service was prompt (although unfriendly)

Very local.

General Comments
For such a highly thought of restaurant, The Hardwick, I found the inability to select a palatable house red wine surprising.I was asked to select wine on the type of grape used for its production in a very pretentious style.I ended up with a rather sharp tasting Chilean merlot .

Later,I had to endure a wine waiter who made a laughably pretentious performance over sniffing a plastic cork and then proceeded to tip wine over the table cloth and down the side of every glass.

The menu is rather awkwardly selected, heavy on pork and fish dishes. Some very odd combinations are offered- fish with a meat sauce?

The dessert I ordered was disappointing- a chocolate mousse without any of richness or strength of flavour you would expect from this level of restaurant.

The staff are perfectly efficient but are surprisingly rude.

This restaurant is below par for the area, and more expensive and sure of itself than it has any right to be.

Ridiculously overrated, very poor value for money.
