Child 44 grabs you on page one and doesn't stop. Inherant in the subject matter, Russia and its paranoid state, it immediately then reminds me of Solzhenitsyn's 'Cancer Ward'. And this automatically brings its own twists and turns which are so believable and realistic you then start to pity the Russian people. This book is quite unique, very believable and utterly charming as well as being hard, vicious and shocking.
