I highly reccomend Stonerigg Riding School near Great Orton. The horses are lovely and the staff are very helpful and welcoming. It is quite reasonably priced and they teach a variety of skills from hacking out to jumping, games and dressage. The teachers are lovely and it is a small, family run business which makes it better as it is not all about the money as other bigger places in carlisle such as blackdyke are.
There are only a few bad points. These were that they do close sometimes due to certain arrangements of the staff and that there are not many horses so you don't get too much choice of horses but the horses that are there are lovely and confidence giving.
