“Buy one if you are a commuter or tourer but not if you...”

★★★★☆

Buy one if you are a commuter or tourer but not if you are after a bike for blasting about at high speeds. I bought my Legend 2nd hand from a fairly weathered bloke who did only about 20 miles a year on it. I was a speed thirsty hooligan who needed to adjust to a more relaxed sit up and beg riding position. I looked around and considered harleys and bmws but I was drawn to a TT from pictures on the internet.
It looks better than it is. I would give it 10 for retro success but it isnt as solid and burbly-throaty as you would expect. In fact it sounds quite tame and girlish.
The black paint was flecking from the odd area around the engine but the tank, chrome and plastics were as good as new.
The previous owner had replaced the chrome wheels for stainless steel which look great but are a little bit of a cheat. I've added another 1200 miles in about 1 month to the clock and in that time I've grown fonder of the low-rider. It is twitchy at about 85mph but below this it cruises nicely and inspires a little cheeky confidence. The ground clearance is good for rounding the most difficult bends at speed but the grip is not that of a sports tourer and reminds you that you didn't buy a TT for scratching.
In town it is surprisingly capable away from lights and nifty through traffic having a great steering lock for getting around badly position vehicles. The seat is fairly comfy but being completely upright all your weight is on one spot and it could do with a larger seat, at least for me anyway. The bike pulls very well from 60 to 90mph, enough to surprise the CBRs and VFRs when needed but you cant comfortably stick at above 80. A large screen has been fitted to my bike to assist with this but speed wobbles and blurred vision from wind-bashing are the result. You could lean down but that wouldn't be cool and is not the point of this bike.
Fuel economy for me is about 10p per mile at best. I regularly get 140 miles for about £15 when 114p per litre.
I just need to make it a bit noisier so that I can listen to the burble at traffic lights to remind me that it isnt speed I was after but an in-betweener. Not a slow V-twin heavy chromed classic and not a mad v-max but something sedate yet capable.
