I am another careful lady owner of a 53 reg nissan micra with 23,000 on the clock who has just been told it will cost me £1200 to replace the timing chain!!! I bought from the dealership and have had the car since new. I too was told it was because of the oil (although the car was serviced in December and I checked the oil 2 days ago!! I have already paid £250 for a new ignition. Nissan are well aware this is a fault with their car. I think we need to petition Nissan on this and take it to 'Watchdog'??

I am a mechanic with 13 year experience with nissan until recently changed to Renault. I do timing chains at home and sometimes once a week and the charge is £750 and that is plenty of profit for myself so Nissan are charging you too much try a reputable non-dealer garage for a price.

I agree with you, lets start a petition, just paid £1000 for new chain, Nissan do not want to know even although they know its a common fault
