Jiti's review of Kikambala, Sun & Sand Beach Resort

“To experience real Kenya life and culture, you have to...”

written by Jiti on 02/08/2008

Good Points
The staff are very friendly. The hotel resort in enormous, there are 4 pools, so it never felt overcrowded - you didn't have to fight for the sunbeds! The hotel is kept very clean, the communal toilets are spotless, the entertainment is good but it got boring as the acts were very similar. The children loved the sporting activities and the entertainers are very friendly with the children.

Bad Points
After 3 or 4 days in the hotel, it got so boring, the food became sickly and it was just the same old thing. The hotel resort does not reflect true Kenyan life and is very deceiving. The prices in the shops and the beauty parlour were overpriced I thought, and equivalent to UK prices

I had a massage at the parlour which was ok, but I also tried the New Look Beauty Parlour just outside and opposite the hotel which although was not as glamorous as the hotel parlour, but the massage was excellent and very value for money.

General Comments
To experience real Kenya life and culture, you have to step out of the hotel. This is were it is all happening and so much fun. The locals are very friendly and hospitable, and we made some very good friends. If you want to book safari, speak to the local businesses - they got us the same sarafi trip, the same safari tour vans and we stayed in the same safari lodges but they got us the best deal which was much less than the hotel or the holiday company offered.
