“The 3G iPhone is similar in looks to the old 2G phone...”

The 3G iPhone is similar in looks to the old 2G phone although you can see the changes if you look closely and there is an obvious improvement in the sound quality. The biggest difference is the inclusion of GPS which works in many of the applications. If you are in an area with GPS reception, you can pinpoint your location on Google maps which can be handy if you're in an unfamiliar town. Photos can be geotagged so everyone will know exactly where you took that shot and your phone can now point you towards many places in your area. The addition of the Application store to iTunes has resulted in a flood of extras for the iPhone and the prices range from free to over £200 and new applications are being added every day.

However, the iPhone is still missing some important features which many other phones have. The camera does not have flash and can't shoot video, voice-activated dialing is missing, Safari still does not support Flash Player so you can't watch videos unless they are embedded YouTube videos and there is still no cut/copy/paste function. Many of the new applications that you can add in are still working out their bugs although updates are slowly getting through. Although having 3G is great, it does eat up the battery if you are a heavy user of the applications so make sure you have some way of recharging your iPhone when you are out and about!

In my opinion, this is a fantastic phone in spite of the things that are missing. Given the nature of the iPhone, I hope that the problems will be ironed out and the beauty of it is that you just have to download updates when they become available rather than buying a new handset. If you own an "old" iphone, you may want to stick with just the 2.0 software upgrade - the only difference is not having the GPS facility.
