lumbricus's review of Elkhart TH100 Eb Tenor Horn

★★★★★

“The Elkhart TH100 Eb Tenor Horn is a must for anyone...”

Good Points
Well constructed. Lacquer beautiful.
Traditional saxhorn form, comfortable to hold and play.
Rose brass leadpipe. Decent mouthpiece which matches the instrument well.
Lovely tone.
Fantastic soft case. Unbeatable price!

Bad Points
Tuning slide before the valve block perhaps contributes to a very slight intonation issue on higher notes, but, easily lipped into tune.

General Comments
The Elkhart TH100 Eb Tenor Horn is a must for anyone who like me wanted a good quality horn as a second or third instrument but at a competitive price.

I got mine for around the £150 mark. I dislike the appearance of many of the cheaper horns built in open wrap style, and therefore this seemed unbeatable. It appears identical to other tenor horns produced in Taiwan/China and marketed under a variety of brands, often £100 or £200 more expensive.
