zann's review of Ricoh 500G

“The Ricoh 500G is one of the rare compact rangefinders...”

Written on: 07/02/2004 by zann (1 review written)

Good Points
Sturdy little camera.
Good value for money.
Light meter reading in viewfinder.

Bad Points
Lense then to become loose.
takes 1.35V mercury battery. [obsolete, replace with LR44]
rangefinder becomes off-aligned easily.

General Comments
The Ricoh 500G is one of the rare compact rangefinders that can withstand punishment.

bought mine second-hand ricoh 500G thru yahoo auction for less than USD$30.

camera is shutter priority, shutter speed up to 1/500. coupled rangefinder, built in cds light meter, 10sec self timer.

my 500G has a slightly loose len that is quite common in this model. but the photo qualities are not affect in anyway.

rangefinder is off aligned horizontally. quite common in old rangefinders as well. thus you'll have to catch a rough estimate for the focus.

Get one as a collectors' item if you can find a cheap and working set. :)
