spinney's review of Sony Ericsson T610

“Before I bought this Sony Ericsson T610 mobile phone...”

★★★★★

written by spinney on 10/09/2003

Good Points
Size of screen, text counter, organizer, quick access to the camera, weight, ease of text messaging, sound quality and Q*bert!

Bad Points
Bad screen visibilty in sunlight (almost impossible), battery life, when call divert is set in "no reply" it doesn't give you enough time to find the phone before it diverts, the joystick can be tricky and some things in the menu can be quite slow to access.

General Comments
Before I bought this Sony Ericsson T610 mobile phone last week I had always sworn by Nokia phones and was very reluctant to buy anything else. However, although there are some improvements that could be made, this is a fab little phone. My last phone was an 8310 and, although I liked it, I never really saw it as a phone I could keep for a long time. This one however is much more like it. With it's sleek design, polyphonic ringtones, camera, colour screen and wap facilities, it's a real winner. Here are some of the things that may help you towards buying/not buying this phone:

- My biggest worry about changing from a Nokia was the difference in texting, but I have to say, I don't know what all the fuss was about: it's easy! You can add words to the dictionary and once you get to know where words come on the list in predictive texting, you can become very quick.

- I wasn't particulary looking for a phone with a camera because I didn't think I would use it much. However, since getting it, I seem to be using it all the time. I love the fact that you can get into camera mode by pressing just 1 button rather than going through the menu screen. The picture quality isn't bad (although this is dependent on the lighting and even if that's ok, the picture can still be quite grainy). However, if you are taking a picture in the sun you really can't see the screen and so it's guess work as to what's in the frame. The picture is good at the end of it but it does seem to be a case of click and hope. It also relies on complete stillness on the part of the person being photographed.

- The sound quality of the phone is superb, though being Sony, it's hardly surprising.

- The size, graphics quality and visibilty of the screen are excellent (unless, as I mentioned above, you are in sunlight in which case it is almost impossible to read).

- The joystick takes some getting used to but I think it's a case of practising. The keys are easy to use, which I find is a make or break for me in a phone.

- The organizer is very good. It allows lots of different options in this menu. You have to try it to appreciate it!

I hope I have helped a little. Generally, if you're looking for a phone because you want a camera, there are better phones out there for you. However, if you want one that's easy to use, has added features like text counter (which for textaholics like me is great), great graphics and sound quality, I would highly recommend it.

:)

( So long Nokia)

Squeeky Pie's Response to spinney's Review

Your review was great! Helped me a lot! I am now seriously going to ask for one for Christmas... since my Nokia seems to be breaking down on me... it randomly goes to the main screen, and freezes! All I can say is Au Revoir Nokia!

Rubbish's Response to spinney's Review

Very nice phone. Think hard before you buy.
Not enough time to get to your phone if you divert on'no reply'. I need to capture all calls at least to voice mail.
Unless I have the phone in my hand I never get a chance to answer it.
Come on Sony, sort it out.
