Good Points
The long awaited album from the heaviest band on the planet. Metallica.
Bad Points
Hard to get into, really have to listen to music a few times to understand.
General Comments
Metallica bring us yet another stunning album, with more shocks than expected. At first play you will notice that there are no solos or melody what so ever. Those looking forward to another black album will be knocked back in dispare. However its an album of many hidden dethps. Complex sound layering and structure will mislead you at first, but after a few plays the music will reveal its sectrets. be open minded when listening and let the album bloom in your mind, feel the music as a world and not sound. When you learn to accept it will it show you its splender.
A great album, comes with lyric book and DVD, plus the music top notch, value for money. a hard raw sound to create sound thrash riffs. A master piece

I totally agree i wasn't sure what to expect at first but it is so much better than some people rate it, they need to respect metallica for again changing direction(i.e load/reload and possibly s&m) but they always keep their roots strong. Not their best album obviously but you have to respect their dedication.(i saw them at the leeds festival UK and they were just quality)

I totally disagree with this review. St. Anger to me is a very poor excuse of an album from Metallica. I understand that there were circumstances surrounding this album, but it doesn't change the fact that it just plain sucks. Listening to each uninspired song is a chore, done only through loyalty to Metallica. All songs sound the same, and there is no variation in the sounds and melodies. The production is woeful, particularly the drums and lack of solos. Lyrics are poor; just listen to "Invisible Kid".

<br>St. Anger is Metallica's lowest selling album by a lot, and there is a reason for that. At concerts they rarely play a song from this album, which shows the band themselves know it sucks. I blame Bob Rock mainly though, since he played bass and actually shared some writing credits, "shudder". Through watching the making of the black album DVD, I realise that Bob Rock had a huge influence on Metallica's direction as a band. He alone destroyed Metallica and this album, in their time of vulnerability. I'm just so thankful they sacked him for this next album. It was the best move they ever made!
