Good Points
Make this your first big tourer. Easy to self service with manual. Though heavy its movable.
Excellent all round bike with looks to go. Very responsive and agile with great accellaration - needs care as sometimes it takes off!
Good centre of gravity for smaller rider I'm 6' but me mate 5'7' found it easier to move than the XJ 900. A classic in the making though good low milage used ones are getting more hard to find as owners hog them - that's a recommendation.
Bad Points
Fuel can vary from 30-45mpg. Chain drive - no big deal. Watch for power on in low gear - easy blast-off. Nothing you can't live with.
General Comments
I bought this Yamaha FJ1200 3CV in first class condition and everything worked despite being 14yrs old. The finish on chrome and paint had stood the time test. The engine runs forever and easily copes with short and mega journeys. Maintenance is easy for the DIY and basic serviciing is a doodle. Handling was well within limits and this bike held a good line.
Recommend full hard luggage and a chain oiller and if you're on the tall side a flip screen - however the standard is fine.
