Good Points
Nice, clean, sexy euro design; big easy-to-read screen with easy-to-decipher icons; bright backlight; small, light; big playback buttons; menus are easy to access; plays 128kbps MP3's which sound very faithful to the original CD's; case is scratch-resistant and durable. Batt life can go past the rated 10-12 hours if the backlight is turned off permanently and volume set midway. Radio is great.

Bad Points
I'd say about half of the time, Musicmatch 9.0 and the Philips player won't synchronize/recognize each other, facilitating that I disconnect/reconnect either the USB or power cables to get them to work properly. Sometimes the Philips player screen will blank out, flashing incessantly at me - requiring a soft reset of the player. The player can't drive my headphones as loud as I'd like. There is a perceptible flicker of the screen when the backlight is on. The lithium-ion batt won't live forever, and is only rated 10-12 hours per charge. The Shuffle Play feature frequently shuffles thru the current album only, instead of randomly going through my entire album collection.

General Comments
I use Musicmatch 9.0 which, while not as intuitive as Sony's Easy Burner (I own a Sony minidisc player as well), is easy to use for transferring music files to/from my laptop to the Philips player. Bought this player in 2005 at Walmart Kunia for $200 which was one of the better players sold there at the time. I'm not disappointed with my purchase and although the hard drive is only 2GB, I was able to fit my favorite CD tracks on it with room to spare. A color screen would have been nice. This player is quirky only when trying to load music onto it, but playback operation is flawless. Looking to invest in one of Philips' newer players - I like their looks a little better than Apple's iPods (yes I own an iPod Nano as well).
