Good Points
responsive engine and great to drive
Bad Points
interior trim seems to scratch easily. Digital clock and tripmeter reset to zero when ignition is turned off. Lack of interior door operated light over driver's seat.
General Comments
I traded in a Pagero (Shogun) to buy an Australian spec X Trail Ti with Luxury pack (AUS$37995 with leather seats and electric sunroof) and manual transmission, as I felt it offered the best option for relatively economical urban driving but still having realistic off road possibilities. I've only had it one week and no complaints yet about urban driving. The 2.5l engine is lively and responsive and the 5sp gearbox easy to shift. I took it up a steep muddy track with 3 passengers on board and locked in 4WD it responded very well. I've yet to try it on the beach. I'm doing a fuel consumption test on it now so will report on this later. My only complaints are small... the digital clock and tripmeter reset to zero as soon as the ignition is turned off. What use is that? Maybe it's been wired up incorrectly? And Nissan really should do something about the interior lights as there is no door controlled light over the drivers seat and dash which is just where you do need it when you open the door at night (only a manually operated map light) I would recommend the cargo protector mat as the plastic flooring scratches very easily. Otherwise a great car and in spite of the profusion of SUVs here in Australia, still quite a head turner.

See full review. In relation to the odometer resenting I had the same problem. It was a fuse. I agree with the light over the front.

As a followup to my earlier report the result of my fuel consumption test which was conducted over 10 weeks and 4800klms of mixed driving, mainly city/urban driving but a longer trip included and a little off road was as follows: 9.92 litres/100klms. Not quite as good as the brochure says for a 2.5ltr manual but pretty close. Fairly happy with result.
