newbeb's review of NetBank Online Banking www.NetBank.com

“I liked them for about the first year we had them....”

Good Points
The convenience of having a bank that was not a "local" bank was helpful when we moved two years ago.
The money market rates used to be good for the limited balance that had to be maintained.

Bad Points
They drained my 3 year old son's savings account ($5 a month service charge for < $300). Without paper statements I was unable to see this (you have to pay for paper statements). Lost more than a hundred dollars there.
They also have problems with joint accounts. We have had both of our cards deactivated when we get a replacement card for one of us and have it activated (even with different numbers). My wife has tried for more than 6 months to get a card to activate, and it just won't work. We are sick of calling. They are very nice, but ineffective.
Joint bill pay is also a pain. I can't have my wife log in and see bills that I have set up to pay. We can have separate bill pay entries for each of our logins, but we can't see what the other one is doing.
Sometimes bill pay takes a while to get the checks to people. Took approximately 1 1/2 weeks to get a check to someone I paid with bill pay. They make money on the float, since they take the money out immediately. I would hope that the check would go out the next business day. Seems like more than a week is extreme.

General Comments
I liked them for about the first year we had them. Then things have gone downhill with their service, problems with their joint accounts, and debit cards getting deactivated (a problem when there is no bank to go into to deal with the issue). Most recently, finding out that NetBank had taken > 100 out of my son's savings account in feed with no notices was the last straw.

Time to move on. NetBank might have been an early player, but they are not the only one. I would recommend looking elsewhere, especially if you need a joint account (spousal or otherwise). Also remember that having a brick and mortar place to walk into is an option you don't have with them. This isn't a problem until you have one you need to be resolved.
