BikeGuy01's review of Status Series 2000 Graphite

“The Status Series 2000 Graphite is a great looking...”

★★★★★

written by BikeGuy01 on 25/08/2006

The Status Series 2000 Graphite is a great looking headless bass guitar. Wooden core with carbon fibre composite shell construction. Very high build quality, excellent electrics, solid brass hardware. Tunes easily and stays in tune.

The beauty of this bass is its neutral balance (probably due to the headless construction) and massive range of sounds available. Electrics are 18v active (on at all times via 2 x PP3 batteries) with pick-up balance, volume and tone controls. The neck does not have a truss-rod; not required due to the extreme rigidity of the carbon fibre composite body / through neck design. I found it is particularly suited to light gauge strings. It has a 24 fret scale, and it can be played slap style very comfortably. Variations on this model were made, notably the washburn Status series, these had the graphite through neck with wooden body attached. The series 2000 graphite (as it was known) retailed at around £1300 new (early to mid 80's). Expect to pay anything from £700 - £1300 secondhand for one of the iconic basses, and they don't seem to be getting any cheaper as time goes by!

The series 2000 is no longer in production, but www.status-graphite.com have other models available.

In summary, it is a great looking, great sounding, quality instrument, but for those who don't like the look of headless basses, this one is best avoided!

Bassbus's Response to BikeGuy01's Review

If I could correct a couple of points in this review. Firstly, the Status Series 2000 has no wood in it whatsoever. It is a all-in-one molded carbo-graphite construction. Secondly, the Washburn Status Series 1000 has no graphite in it whatsoever. It is an all wood, neck-through construction. Both basses are of very high quality.
