Phil M's review of Tulum, Dreams Resort

“I didn't want to leave Mexico - was a little...”

Good Points
Virgin were great - very courteous staff, the Airbus had plenty of leg room even for me (a 6ft2" bloke). In flight food was very nice too.
Hotel was amazing - 2 pools right on the beach in the middle of nowhere so very quiet and peaceful.
Food was amazing and very fresh although was catered towards the American audience.
Weather was great while there 40 degrees centigrade most of the time and very humid. It did rain once for all of 10 minutes but stayed sunbathing as was a cool relief from the humidity.
The pool bar was great - as all inclusive I was able to try nearly all possible cocktails all made with locally produced fresh fruit juices. Site used Coca cola and smirnoff, etc., not just local brand names for drinks.
Staff were very good and friendly and the event people need a medal for their attempts to get me to take part in the aerobics every morning.
Day trip to Cozumel to go on a submarine - I've seen nothing like it before and cost around
£60 for both of us.
Airconned rooms throughout resort.
Free bar fridge in room refilled daily.
Free room service 24hrs.
Great sized apartments and really nicely decorated.

Bad Points
Americans - we went during spring break for a quiet honeymoon. We choose Dreams due to its out of the way location. To be fair there was only one group of lads and appart from their overactive pool games were still well behaved.
Distance from Cancun and Playa Del Carmen - 1.5hrs to airport and 1hr to Playa (Taxi $50)
It never gets cool - even at 3am the heat can be anoying.

General Comments
I didn't want to leave Mexico - was a little disapointed with Miami (48hr stop over) - the missus liked the mall though and public transport was reliable and very cheap. Also broke up the long flight back.

Would go again in future but not great for kids as not a lot to do. They do perform weddings there and we saw a couple and they were well arranged by the staff.

Food, accomodation and staff were amazing and were happy to accomodate all requests made. The perfect Honeymoon destination. Check the dates though as late June is start of huricane season.
