BillBristol's review of Triumph Legend TT

“Nice looking in a traditionally Triumph way, this...”

★★★★☆

written by BillBristol on 21/06/2006

Good Points
Traditional style, low seat height, easy to ride and goes OK. Flexible engine. Looks like a Triumph, which is good. Cheap to buy and run.

Bad Points
Gearing too low for relaxed cruising. Bike is a bit heavy and all performance - engine, suspension, roadholding, brakes- is adequate, but nothing excels or impresses. Finish average too.

General Comments
Nice looking in a traditionally Triumph way, this Legend TT is a bike that is easy to ride and does everything adequately, rather than exceptionally well in any area. I bought mine with 4000 miles on the clock from a dealer, without having ridden it or even heard it run beforehand. Big mistake, don't ever do it. The three cylinder engine won't pull your arms off when accelerating (the wind will if you go much over 70mph though) but performs spiritedly enough. I changed the front sprocket to raise the gearing, which made a positive difference and for much more relaxed riding, having me looking less often for the next nonexistent gear. My problem was with the fact that it sounded like a bag of rattling nuts and bolts every time I ran it and I wasn't convinced by the dealer's assertion that "they all sound like that sir". That was what led me to seel it. As one of the few bikes my wife has ever agreed to ride on, I have fond memories of it, but not those horrible noises from the engine.
