“A hunk of junk - I have repaired this Hoover TV630...”

Good Points
You can open the door with a push, which cancels the cycle. This is the only good point!

Bad Points
Everything else - unreliable and poor design.

General Comments
A hunk of junk - I have repaired this Hoover TV630 myself to keep it going. Who designed this? The main control knob is so smooth that you can't turn it if your hands are damp - like when you've been handling washing - duh! Bolts holding the fan unit to the air duct are inserted from the duct side, so when they rattle loose (which they do because they have no anti-shake washers) they fall into the fan housing. If you are lucky they'll just sit in the bottom of the duct - otherwise they jam the fan against the duct. Discovered that the fault with the element is not that it burns out but the overheat protector fails (happened to ours twice), and this is sacrificial and part of the element assembly. Replaced it with a thermostatic switch from our previous junked dryer - hey presto, works like it SHOULD. However, the motor, fan and bearings progressively wear out and although it is working, it is as noisy as a concrete mixer. Thank heaven it's in the garage!

Hi
How do I open it to check the belt winding on the motor? Mine wont stay on unless I hold the ON button down and then it makes a slipping noise (might be a bearing noise).
I cannot see how to access the bottom rear?
Thanks, Rami

Sounds like a jammed or worn-out belt-tensioning idler to me (don't know about the switch, though) Taking these apart is a nightmare, and you can't get good access to the lower rear inside. If you take the top off, if I recall correctly, you might just be able to reach around the drum and find the tensioning arm to see if the idler is flapping, or the spring is not tensioning it. I think that you have to dismantle the air tract and pull the drum off to get to the motor subassembly. Unless you've got an entire evening spare, I wouldn't even start.
