gjonesy's review of Volkswagen Polo 1.2 E

“Volkswagen Polo, a nice car, no problems yet...”

★★★★★

written by gjonesy on 13/05/2006

Good Points
Good stereo, good sound from the standard CD player
Cool blue lights at night!
Solid Feel, heavy doors
Engine feels quite torquey at slow speeds, handy for nipping around town.

Bad Points
Can feel slow when accelerating up to meet motorway traffic, not too bad when overtaking if you change down a gear or 2!

General Comments
Volkswagen Polo, a nice car, no problems yet whatsoever ... fingers crossed. 10 000 miles covered so far.

Good MPG can be obtained, around 50mpg, but to get it takes careful driving; high gears and cruising at around 70. Once you speed up to 80 or 90 it likes to eat petrol!

Jonathan Kelly's Response to gjonesy's Review

Written on: 04/08/2006

I rented VW's Polo in July last year for two weeks on holiday in Cyprus for the price £169. A tank of petrol cost me £30 and lasted and lasted for miles.
Looks good for a small car alloy wheels improves its looks when I have seen them on other Polo.
Engine was a 1.2E, the engine revs well to 6000rpm it lacked torque however and will slow down on steep hills so third gear was needed. I have found it good on the motorway and country road driving. Handling I found first class.
The size as super mini is deceptive at nearly 6' 1" and 17 stone I had plenty of room and comfort it can easily fit 4 full sized adults in to it the book is a good size too.
Build quality was good as no creaking noises were heard no shaking panels. Everything sounded solid and doors closed with a clunk so it is very good quality. It was quite pleasant to be inside. The car had power steering tinted windows electric of course. These small cars have really improved.
