Derek Landy, Playing With Fire

Playing With Fire is the second book in the 'Skulduggery Pleasant' series and it didn't disappoint. Skulduggery, the skelton detective, and Valkyrie Cain, his fast thinking sidekick, are back to save the world from Baron Vengeous and the Grotesquery. The Baron wants to bring back the evil Faceless Ones onto an unsuspecting population and it's up to Skulduggery, the Sanctuary and a cast of interesting characters to stop him. Faced with a number of evil characters having a myriad of special powers the battle is on and the reader is caught up in a magical world where anything is possible. Recommended for 8-12 year olds, it is dark and macabre so caution should be advised for the more sensitive readers. It is however a generally good read for the young and the young at heart.
