General Comments
My Panasonic DVD player was great I got it as a Christmas gift in 2001.
I had no problems except for a background humming sound during all playback. It wasn't too bad but it got really loud at low volumes and made some films unwatchable. It may have just been my player though, as other reviews seem to praise the sound quality.
Last week unfortunatly the dvd player died, it stopped reading any discs and presented a H02 error. After reading around I have found that after about one year most of these panasonic DVD players stop working with similar problems and either a H02 or H03 error. It is annoying as it has just run out of its warranty.
I would recommend not buying this machine and buying a similar priced machine from a different manufacturer. It's a shame because appart from the sound and it's death it was a very good machine.

Yup....well, as with most people, it has been about a year since I got my DVD player, and as with most people, it has died with a H03 error... I read that if you press pause, rewind, and open buttons at the same time until the screen says "initialize" it will work again. And it did for a few times, and now it's just Dead. (with a rental DVD inside which is due tonight.) Grr...I am really PO-ed.

I just experienced the H02 error problem with my Panasonic RV31. It's over a year old. I tried the pause/rewind/open trick but it didn't work. Here's what did work: I took off the cover (not recommended by the manufacturer) and blew it out with canned air. The reader begin to spin again and everything is fine!

The problem is the cheap brush spindle motors Panasonic uses, DVDs spin much faster than a CD and the vibration gets dust from the magnets in the brushes causing failure.
