I've used many scanners which claim to remove and repair various critical windows errors, however in reality few actually make that much difference to performance of your PC after using various 'Fixes' some can even make the problem worse, I found however that with Speed up my pc version (2009) My Vista based OS showed distinct speed improvements and a niggling start-up issue was quickly resolved. Overall if you find you have instabilities in your operating system, I'd recommend SpeedUpMyPC. In conclusion: Worth trying if you are looking for an effective solutions to XP & Vista slow-downs.
