Good Points
Good on Fuel, 25000 milles to set of front tyres, approx 40000 for rear tyres. 23000 set of front pads, 20000 service interval and 100000 for timing belt. No problems with the engine so far (150000 miles 4 yrs old) Still on original clutch, break shoes and exhaust.
Bad Points
Handbrake appalling, powered steering pump packed in 3 times due to the work that I do (I'm a driving instructor), however if you're an instructor and buy a new vauxhall it comes with an upgraded pump which I believe causes no problems. Indicator switch went after 30000 miles. Vauxhall, Luton, originally denied there was a problem with the steering pump...then did a u-turn! Gear selector went after about 40000 miles, due to the job.
General Comments
Using this Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 Diesel car as a driving school car is excellent on fuel (50-53mpg). As a driving school car this car isn't always driven the way a car should be driven and as such has taken a fair bit of abuse and handled it well. The car retired in March 05 and has been idle in my garage for 4-5 weeks and still starts first time.
All in this is an excellent car that performs well, the only major fault was the steering pump. I've replaced the car and now have a Hyundia Getz...largely because of price and the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty available from Hyundia.
